The Breeders – Happiness Is A Warm Gun (The Beatles cover)

一直希望有人可以用極慢版詮釋這首名曲，但聽過幾個版本後都不理想，就算好不容易速度對了，最後總是加進太多東西，無法劃出原曲歌詞裡如冰塊般無異質的殘酷切面。而演繹這類傷情歌曲，心目中最佳的當代人選，絕對是Beth Gibbons，對於她的聲音我在前面有過簡單描述，可惜（或可喜）的是她似乎並不是過往爵士女伶的角色，會把所有標準曲目都拿來用喉嚨潤過一遍，因此退而求其次，挪威的Susanna & the Magical Orchestra似乎成了最合理的選擇。雖然沒有如Gibbons濃厚的情緒渲染力，但她卻以一種超越一切的漠然姿態，輕輕吐著冰冷氣息，一層一層慢慢將包裹住傷口的白色繃帶剝開，裸露出核心那讓人無法直視、充滿毒液的愛情果實。

Susanna & the Magical Orchestra / Love Will Tear Us Apart

最近幾個月，跟吾友insecteens一樣，正在進行大規模的CD重聽計畫，只不過他的目標是把他那一整面牆聽完，然後精選曲子裝入自己的iPod。而我，則企圖以1997年為起點，從首張專輯發行在這之後十年間的樂團和藝人裡，挑選確認出屬於我的經典（意思不會有Radiohead，因為他們第一張專輯發行於1993）。目前計畫還在進行中，規模過大不知何日才能了結，但這兩天非常肯定的愛著一首曲子，想想就先放上來吧。

如果被問最喜歡的Post-Rock樂團，可能會跟我所有的朋友一樣，直接回答Godspeed You! Black Emperor，畢竟他們的力道、重量感、纖細情緒的掌握以及無懈可擊的張力，都完整地定義著演奏搖滾(Instrumental Rock)的基本樣貌。不過要是再接著問，最愛的曲子是哪一首，那麼現在的答案則很可能會是Caspian的Last Rites。

雖然Caspian沒有Mogwai和Godspeed先驅者的魄力，也不像風格最接近的Explosions in the Sky受到那麼多膜拜，但在第一張EP 「You Are the Conductor」中，他們執行了一首對我來說接近完美的曲子。完美的行進步調、完美的樂器安排以及完美的旋律線，綿密而不斷拉長的吉他，拍動著微弱空氣，以世界上最孤獨的姿態飛翔著，最後幾個滑音，像在天空中繞著無盡悲傷的迴旋，不忍，卻不得不轉身而去。
